Spell check is not working, so wanted to turn it on. All the advice starts with “click the File tab”, there is no file tab, there is no command ribbon.

Based on the screenshot provided it seems that you are using Windows Mail app pre-installed in Windows 10 and not Office Outlook. To use Office Outlook, you may type Outlook in search box and open it. You may also refer to the below mentioned steps to create shortcut for Office Outlook application.
