Reeves Top Contributor: Watercolor Painting. Verified Purchase. I’m learning to use Adobe Illustrator through online classes. I have trouble grasping and remembering auditory information so I bought the book as a supplement.
It covers all the information, and I highly recommend it for those who learn best through the written word. My prior background is that I’ve done a handful of Illustrator web tutorials but never seemed to absorb much knowledge. Illustrator is an extremely robust program and I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in it. Although this book is really good, the online web edition is really all you need. It is free with the purchase of the book or kindle version, but on the Peachpit site, you can purchase just the web edition, which has videos of nearly the whole book.

The reason I took off one star is because some of the illustrations are eye-charts; tiny and hard to read.
The reason I took a second star off is because, as other have commented, the binding of this book is horrible. Just arrived and pages are coming loose.
I am not going to return it because I like the book for it’s content and it is a good way to learn Illustrator; also a replacement would almost certainly be of atrocious quality as well. I wouldn’t advise you to buy this book if you are just starting out with Illustrator It is by no means a complete guide or an “CC for dummies” kind of a book.
The author brushes on few things, and the principle by which he chose them remains unclear to me, since a lot of elements remain undiscussed at all, while others take up pages and pages. The book fluctuates between being unnecessary overdescriptive about every little step and “you should know this” mode. The lesson files are just a pain I can’t say going through this was a complete waste of time, but 3 stars reflect my aftertaste clearly – and I was quite familiar with Illustrator before I began reading.
Can’t imagine if I wasn’t As such, I have to stay current on many different types of software. One package I’ve neglected to keep abreast of is Illustrator. This is that book. It has very clear step-by-step procedures that walk you through many features of Illustrator. I’ve also learned a bunch of stuff about Illustrator in general that I never knew. You can register with the publisher and download samples for all the lessons in the book, this is really nice.
I highly recommend this book for anybody just starting out in Illustrator or for anybody who needs to get up-to-speed on the latest version.
So far so good! I did not think I could learn AI without a class. I was wrong. This book is pretty straight forward for a novice like myself. I do read before I do, so that may help versus doing the exercises as I go along. Photoshop is next!!!! The content is good and would have given a higher rating, but I’ve had the book for a couple of months and the pages are falling out due to not enough glue in the binding.
