Captivate 8 now works on my Mac after I applied one of the many patches for Yosemite. It was a very early patch. I updated to the latest version of Captivate Ver 8.
I read elsewhere that the audio in Captivate may not play properly. I use less of Captivate these days, more on Camtasia and Articulate, so I have not tested the Captivate audio on Yosemite but I can say that Camtasia audio does not play properly on Yosemite and this has not been fixed.
I think you should update all patches and versions on Yosemite and Captivate. I did not install Java 6. I just installed the mac version of Captivate 8 and did the Captivate Ver 8. Captivate will not open. What were the patches you applied for Yosemite? My laptop is up to date with all the current patches. Is there something that I am missing here?
Hi there Michael. I too am getting this on about 5 computers. Did you ever find a fix for this error? The worst part is the scroll bar is invisible! Also the preview pane in the editor which is hardly necessary does not go away or minimize when I uncheck the preview option. And thank you thank you so much for bringing back the grab and size screen on the screen record option! All in all i would never use any other authorware in place of this! Just a quick suggestion for future upgrades. With the responsive design, Tablet and PC view, it would be great if you could lock or copy the blue box that indicates the background area location to the next slide.
If you want to show the same part of the slide used over mulitple slides, you have to try and move the blue box to the exact position slide after slide which is very difficult. Our workaround has been to copy and paste the first slide, but that also then means cutting and pasting the text that was automatically generated to the copied slide and then deleting the original one etc.

No, I have admin rights to the computer and I even had my IT admin attempt the update, but experiences the same behavior. Thanks for reporting this issue. You can see in my original screenshot the white area with submit button filled the screen with a white background. After updating to 8. This happens in IE I am pretty sure we have not had this message before. Any input on what causes this would be appreciated. I may be a nit picker but it really peeves me that there is a milimeter jolt every time a slide changes because I have to attempt to manually align them versus using an absolute positioning system.
What happened to Adobe Captivate Exchange? There were some awesome templates and things we could download. Please help! Thank you for this. I can now stop using Cap 7 and move up to Cap 8 now. Native app publisher is still being neglected. There is confusion between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8; it is using the wrong version of PhoneGap 3. The rest looks brilliant so far. Your responsibility as a developer is to consider these needs when presenting the content and there is no tool out there that will do that for you.

Well, this would be a great place for me to take a step back and explain. I love analogies so here goes…remember back in the early days of mobile devices, particularly the iPhone, displaying websites on such small screens was a real challenge.
To address this, web developers decided that building mobile sites was the answer. These mobile sites got the job done by making bigger pictures and using fewer words but frustrated the user with a diminished browsing experience.
And to add further complexity, these tablets started showing up in different screen sizes and resolutions. Why is this responsive design important to eLearning and why should you care?
Are you reading this article on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone? Our audience, the consumers of our eLearning, will more than likely be consuming content on various devices with various screen sizes and resolutions.
Our audience has made the shift to mobile access and now Captivate 8 has made it easy for us to develop learning that works on the devices they use to access it! Until now, eLearning developers created fixed resolution content and forced it to fit the different screen sizes. What was needed was content that would adapt to its environment.
As a beginner, you need to have a starting point; a place of reference to give you context, and Adobe has included different themes with layouts created so you can start developing responsive courses out of the box. But by no means think that your creative genius has been reigned in with these pre-designed themes.
On the contrary, you have some room to customize the themes to suit your specific needs AND save them to use on future projects. Smart Responsive Positioning. This feature gives you the ability to position objects and define their positions relative to the various screen borders. This helps your content maintain a layout that works on the multiple devices you are will be designing for.
Captivate 8 locks in to multi-touch technology allowing you to create courses that allow your learners to tap, scroll, pinch, zoom and swipe their way through courses. Enabling scrolling gives you the flexibility on mobile screens to handle content spill over. These types of interactions have all been developed with slide based learning in mind.
No discussion regarding Captivate 8 should ignore the richness and potential opportunities of utilizing the GPS functionality that comes baked in to this release. Creating courses in Captivate 8 takes advantage of the GPS of mobile devices to deliver localized content including language and images appropriate to the location of the learner.
Something you should keep in mind when considering all of this responsiveness is that even though you can migrate courses created in Captivate 6 and 7 to Captivate 8, you will not be able to convert them into responsive courses. Any responsive course will have to be created in Captivate 8. Captivate 8 has dozens of new features and added functionality such as support for roll over and down states for Smart Shapes, importing HTML5 and Edge Animations, and native support for WebObjects that far outweigh any cons.
My intent is not to overwhelm you with too much detail about the features. Rather, my goal is to show you how Adobe has made a compelling case why anyone transitioning to or in the early stages of eLearning development should give Captivate 8 some serious thought. He also gives great advice on the various settings sometimes going against Adobe’s defaults to get the most user-friendly, quick, and standardized results.
